CW New District Residency
22 August - 29 September 2017

I participated the CW New District Residency coordinated by Andrea Coltman which was taking place in Canary Wharf Estate.

It was an experience to learn how to write a project proposal for applying for the residency. There were many artists from different places and they do different art, so it is nice to learn something from each other and also build up the network.

For each week, Andrea invited artists to come to do workshops which involve artist's talking and some interesting events, and we can learn professional knowledge there, for example, one artist came to do a presentation about architectural artists and history. We also got the chance to visit One Canada Square and Museum of London Dockland, and there is a guide who introduced us the local history.
Volunteer at Peckham Platform
November 2016 - March 2018

Peckham Platform is a gallery based in Peckham in London, and they launch art exhibitions and public activities. Volunteering a gallery is a way to get work experiences, communication skills, and how the gallery works.

One of my duties is greeting and introducing the information of the exhibition to visitors. I needed remembering what is the exhibition about and the news of the gallery. This can practice my communication skills, and it is also helpful for building the self-confidence.

There are many children coming to the drawing workshop and play the drum. The most important thing is teaching them how to use our drawing tools and offering a happy time. There is not needed very difficult teaching skills, but It is very important to be kind and patient.

I got to know more local artists and their artworks, as well as a little bit of local culture(Peckham). In addition, many of my colleagues are artists such as painter, designer and musician, and it is nice to have conversations about art, and exchange opinions with each other.
Assistant for Jerwood Drawing Prize
13 - 24 July 2017

The artwork selection for the prize was taking place at Wimbledon College of Arts, and they would like to have some students who can help out during that time. My job involves with assisting for artwork archive, for example, I needed to put artworks in located spaces. Another task was to communicate with participants, for instance, I can give them instructions when the participant came to collect their drawings. I also learn how to wrap and make artworks safer. In addition, It is an opportunity to get to know how the judging process looks like.
One That Holds Everything
3 - 5 November 2017

We had our interim show at Crypt Gallery, and it is site-specific exhibition due to space. The gallery is under the church, and every one had to create something to make a connection with this space.

This experience is very tested my time-management as we had a long holiday during that time, and once we started term, the exhibition would take place very soon. I was on the design team, but we did not have good communication and we did not meet up in our group, so we kind of failed our job, that was a lesson. But I did something instead, I did the exhibition map and prints as well as the opening day.

Regarding my work, I did a painting, a girl looking like doing confession. My feedback was not very good, because they could not understand why I was doing a painting. Also, that church is not for people going to do confession. It was a lesson for me to rethink the importance of doing research.
Life in a Shoe Box
26th - 29 April 2017

We had a group exhibition at Peckham, London, and this show was engaging with a theme: Life in a Shoe Box. The design team and making team made three different types of boxes (see chart left), and everyone had to create a work can be put inside of the box.

I was being a technician for setting up the shoe boxes, my work involves: measuring the artworks and the exhibition space, communicating with curators, Using tools to hang artworks and making sure artworks were securely kept and handled safely.
17m2
7 - 15 June 2017

It was a group exhibition at University of the Arts London. We needed to make small works as the space is quite small, 17m2. I made a work by using wash powder to copy the smell of the flower. However, due to it is an open space, so the smell is gone very quickly. This experience reminds me to be aware to work with 'moving' sculpture as there is much uncertainty. My job also involves with time management as I have to invigilate the space, to take care of everyone's work, for example, I had to turn on the specific lights for artworks
